PLAYER OF THE MATCH YUVRAJ SINGH
Yuvraj Singh was the star for the co-hosts in Ahmedabad, hitting a calm, unbeaten 57 to guide his side to a five-wicket win after Ricky Ponting's century had put Australia in a strong position.Ponting made 104 off 118 balls as the Australians made 260 for six, but India reached their target with 14 balls remaining thanks to Yuvraj, Sachin Tendulkar (53) and Gautam Gambhir (50).Zaheer, Yuvraj, and Ashwin picked up two wickets apiece as Australia set 261 for victory.
Chasing a challengeable 261 for a win, India got off to a steady start with Tendulkar and Sehwag batting calmly and further the master and Gambhir added a crucial 50-run stand. A run out of Gambhir in the middle followed by the dismissal of Dhoni and there the Aussies would have sniffed a comeback. But Raina(34) joined forces with Yuvraj(57*) and shut down the Australian hopes for a comeback with an enthralling 74-run stand. The bowlers toiled hard but failed to make the breakthrough at the right moment and to add to it they were on the expensive side as well.
INDIA HAVE SAILED INTO THE LAST FOUR and by doing so they have set up a mouth watering clash against their arch rivals Pakistan. India have also ended the 12-year old supremacy of the Kangaroos in the WCs.
