ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP - NZ VS SL (1st SF)

NEW ZEALAND 217 (48.5)  SRI LANKA 220/5 (47.5)
PLAYER OF THE MATCH     KUMAR   SANGAKKARA

Sri Lanka bowled very well from the start and took wickets at regular intervals to bowl out New Zealand for a low total. Mendis was the best bowler picking up 3/35 in his 9.5 overs. Malinga too took 3/55 in his 9 overs but was a touch expensive. Muralidaran took 2/42 in his 10 overs. Styris was the star batsman for the Kiwis scoring 57. The batting for New Zealand struggled in general and collapsed in the end. Sri Lanka needs a low total to chase.
Sri Lanka started off very well with their batting in the start with Tharanga(30) and Dilshan(73) putting up a 40 run partnership for the first wicket. Then Sangakkara(54) along with Dilshan put up a partnership of 120 runs but after these two perished, the middle order batsmen struggled a lot to get going. It was bad fielding from the Kiwis which let the pressure go off the Lankans. In the end Samaraweera(23) and Mathews(14) guided their team home. For New Zealand, Tim Southee was the best bowler taking 3/57 in his 10 overs. Vettori and McKay took a wicket each but failed to get the home team all out. Kumar Sangakkara was declared the Man of the Match for his wonderful performance with the bat and the gloves
Drama! Samaraweera hits a boundary and the Umpire calls it a dead ball! A rocket is fired outside the stadium and Umpire Aleem Dar was disturbed by that and he tried to stop the bowler but McKay had already bowled the delivery and Samaraweera hit the ball over the cover region for a 4!
